My Nursery Color Palette – Mauve, White, and Dark Blue
Now that I have mauve walls and ceilings in the nursery (see Week 2’s post), in Week 3 of the One Room Challenge I’ve been working on the rest of the color palette.
I knew off the bat I wanted most of the furniture to be white so I took that as my secondary color. I’m not a huge pink person, but since it’s a baby girl’s room you gotta have some pink right? Plus, it would pull the pinkish tones out of the mauve really well. With just mauve, white, and pink the color palette was starting to feel too girlish, floaty and flat to me. It just needed something else. I was out browsing the Minted store* here in San Francisco, because they have such cute children’s art prints* and have also started selling printed home decor like pillows* and curtains* for kids’ rooms and nurseries in their adorable Little Mint shop*. That’s when I came across the perfect printed fabric! It has a base of dark blue. It’s not a nautical navy but a more sophisticated dark blue green with a floral pattern in shades of pink and taupe. I loved it immediately! I thought the floral print was cute but not babyish which I liked. And I found the accent color I needed! Just a bit of the dark blue would add depth to the room’s light colors. And you know I love blue!
I didn’t have a swatch of the fabric so here’s me trying to piece together swatches of similar colors to see how it would work with the wall color. And I like what I see!
Here is the color palette translated to pillows and throws. And I had to throw in the cute stuffed cat that was a gift!
I decided to use this fabric for the curtains*. They are made to order, so I have to wait a few weeks for them. Hope they turn out as I envision!
OTHER PROGRESS
To save some money I reused the light fixture we already had. It’s from Ikea and inexpensive, but I actually think it works really well in a nursery! It looks like a big fluffy cloud. I like that it’s white but sculptural, and it looks pretty when lit. I have the large one so it makes a big impact.
