How to decorate your home for fall - 4 easy tips
Fall, unbelievably, is just around the corner! Just like bringing out the cozy sweaters and hot drinks, you’ll want your home to feel cozy and warm when the chill hits, too! On top of that, is anyone ready to shop in retail stores yet? Because I’m not. That means I have to shop for my fall decor online, and lately with all the shipping delays, it takes some time to get things. So it’s a good time to get started!
Changing up your decor for the seasons doesn’t have to be elaborate. Just a few pieces will lend that fall feel without an over-the-top theme. (You won’t find any pumpkins here.) Keep it fresh, comfortable, and elegant with a few easy tips for decorating your home for fall. These tips are versatile and can really be used when decorating for any season.
Tip 1: It starts with the color palette.
The easiest way to bring in that fall feeling is to change up the colors of your home decor. Jewel tones, earth tones, and darker and moodier colors speak fall to me. They warm up a space and bring some richness into a room that was perhaps light and airy for summer. Colors like emerald, mustard, indigo, wine, rust, and even black are great for fall.

Tip 2: Change out the pillows and add texture with textiles.
An easy way to bring in your fall color palette is to change out your pillow covers. Pull from your collection that you already have and treat yourself to a few new ones like this mustard velvet pillow, this camel, black and ivory velvet pillow, or this deep olive green pillow. Here’s how to mix and pair pillows for complementary but not matchy pillow combinations.
Materials matter too. Thicker velvets are a great fall addition. Heavier, chunkier, and/or darker throws add so much coziness during the cooler months. Plus there are so many styles it’s a must have when decorating. Throwing in a faux sheepskin throw, sherpa throw or faux fur throw is also a cozy and luxurious touch!
These are great low commitment ways to add color, pattern, and texture, especially lovely for achieving that layered look that is great for fall.

Tip 3: Add Seasonal Botanicals.
What indicates the season more than florals and greenery? You can go real or faux if you want low maintenance and to be able to reuse year after year. Bring in botanicals that fit your color palette like dark pink florals, golden yellow branches, green stems of eucalyptus, and ones that are typical of the season.

Tip 4: Extend the tips on color and materials to other home accessories
Choose darker wood bowls and vases, black for rattan or other wovens, and heavier materials for boxes, trays, and vases like stone and ceramic. Candle sconces are also a great way to add a warm glow.
